MUW Phi Beta SigmaCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Alpha Omicron Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at Mississippi University for Women received top honors at its 99th annual state conference recently held in Vicksburg.


The fraternity received Superior Chapter of the Year. In addition, Terence Nicholson of West Point, Sean Cummings of Clarksdale, Jeffery Johnson of Memphis and Nicolas Wright of Eupora received Academic Achievement Awards for maintaining a 3.0 or above.

Wright also placed second in the oratorical contest. He will compete on the debate team at the 99th annual regional conference in Columbus, Ga.

The fraternity also received an award for its work in the Bigger and Better Business Program, which is one of the fraternity's national programs.

"It is an honor to be recognized for all the time and effort that our chapter devoted to ensure that we were successful at this year's state conference and to know that hard work truly does pay off." said Nicholson, chapter president.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University on Jan. 9, 1914. It is considered the "People's Fraternity" because it does not limit brotherhood and service to only one race or demographic background. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded on the principles of brotherhood, scholarship and service.
