Honors CollegeCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Ina E. Gordy Honors College at Mississippi University for Women recently traveled to Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University to participate in the first Mississippi Honors Conference.

Five seniors from The W presented their original research at the conference. Barsha Aangdembe Subba, a biology major, received first place in the Science and Engineering category.

Philip Stoner, a sophomore and vice president for the MUW Student Honors Council, was nominated by all of the honors colleges in the state of Mississippi to serve as next year’s secretary on the 2014 Mississippi Honors Conference Council.

More than 130 students from 10 colleges and universities across the state participated in the conference. Students gathered for two days of paper and poster presentations displaying the undergraduate research skills of some of Mississippi's brightest honors students.

A student-led and governed event, the conference was planned and carried out by the MSU University Honors Council.

Schools that participated in the Honors Conference were Meridian Community College, Mississippi College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, University of Mississippi, Pearl River Community College, Delta State University and The University of Southern Mississippi.
