COLUMBUS, Miss. – By the end of this summer, a new walking path will be in place at Mississippi University for Women.

The MUW Walking Path is being made possible through funds from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation as part of the Passport to Wellness program.

Distance markers are in place for the mile-long track. In addition, crosswalks have been repainted and crosswalk lights have been installed. The cleaning and coating process are expected to take place around mid-July.

“With good luck and weather, we anticipate meeting our summer target schedule,” said Jim Jones, project director for campus planning.

The Walking Path is part of a campus initiative geared toward encouraging healthier lifestyles among residents in Columbus/Lowndes County.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation is committed to supporting Mississippi's universities and colleges in implementing healthy eating and exercise initiatives that extend from the campus to the local communities and schools.
