Turnipseed

Columbus, Miss. -- W athletics has announced Morgan Turnipseed as head cross country coach.

“We are excited to have Morgan on staff as our Head Cross Country coach. She brings a wealth of competitive running experience to our new program. Morgan is, as we always talk about, the right fit for Owls Athletics,” said Jason Trufant, director of athletics.

The newest addition to the Owl’s coaching staff comes from Mississippi College where she was a graduate assistant for the university’s track and field team. Turnipseed was hurdler and cross country runner for the Choctaw’s track and field team from 2011-2014 as well as a member of the Mississippi College Cheerleading Team from 2010-2014.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to coach at The W for many reasons. It is an honor to be a part of the W, and I’m excited to work with the staff,” said Turnipseed. “I’m very passionate about coaching athletes to see them succeed in running as well as in the race of life.”

As a collegiate athlete, Turnipseed was named 2014 Mississippi College Female Athlete of the Year, ASC All-Academic Team Member and Member of the Mississippi College Hall of Fame.

Turnipseed holds a bachelor’s of science in Elementary Education and master’s of science in Elementary Education from Mississippi College.

Women’s cross country will start in the fall of 2017 while men’s cross country will begin in the fall of 2018. The program will focus on a competitive intercollegiate schedule throughout the south region. Membership in the USCAA will offer competitive opportunities for the program.
