COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women Alumni Association is proud to announce that the 2017 Long Blue Line Auction, held during the annual Homecoming celebration this past spring, raised another record amount, exceeding $15,000 in proceeds.

The funds raised at this year’s auction fully funded The MUWAA Legacy Scholarship bringing the endowed fund’s total to more than $65,000. From the endowment’s earnings, a $2,500 scholarship is awarded to an entering, full-time student who is a family member of an MUW alumna or alumnus. Recipients of this award are selected based upon a combination of their academic achievements, work and volunteer experience and extracurricular activities.

Silent auction proceeds also fund Faculty Enhancement Grants designed to enrich the educational and professional activities of faculty members and the New Faculty Award given to a newer faculty member to recognize his or her work supporting the academic mission of The W.

This is the fifth year of The Long Blue Line Auction. Kristi Hipp Mosley, special events chair, and her seven-member committee diligently worked to make this auction the success it was.

Mosley is beginning her third year as special events coordinator. “The auction has allowed MUWAA a unique opportunity to raise funds each year to endow The Legacy Scholarship fund and award other grants and awards to faculty,” she said.

“Each year we have received tremendous support from alumni and friends of Mississippi University for Women by way of donations such as handmade goods, artwork, crafts, events and vacations,” reported Mosley. Additionally, alumni chapters across the nation assemble baskets of gifts that highlight their local artists and special goodies, helping to bridge the geographic gap between chapters and The W.

Preparations for next year’s auction are underway. The auction will be held during Homecoming March 22–25, 2018.
