COLUMBUS, Miss. - Maridith Walker Geuder, executive director of university relations at Mississippi University for Women, has announced she will retire at the end of September after serving more than 30 years in higher education.
The West Point native will close out a distinguished career as a skilled communicator in which she has directed The W's comprehensive marketing and communication strategies over the past five years.
MUW President Jim Borsig said, "Maridith's leadership has raised The W's print and digital communications and marketing efforts to a new level. Under her stewardship, The W's visual identity has been established, our university marks protected and licensed, and our university magazine, Visions, has become known for its exceptional quality. Her greatest contribution has been her love for the university, our students, staff and faculty."
Geuder said, "It has been great to work under the leadership of Dr. Jim Borsig and to see what he has done for The W. I am so proud to see this university thriving."
She is most proud of mentoring younger professionals, many of whom have gone on to more responsible positions in higher education. "It is gratifying to see the growth and success of those you work with. They will continue to be champions for higher education."
Her career has included positions at two Southeastern Conference institutions, including 22 years at Mississippi State University and four years at The University of Alabama. She also served four years at Southern Living magazine in Birmingham, Ala.
Geuder added, "I have had a wonderful career in higher education, and I value what higher education can do for the state and the community. I also value the institutions I have worked for."
She has held leadership positions with the College Public Relations of Association of Mississippi, as well as with District III of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and has presented at regional and national conferences. Her work has been recognized with awards from both organizations.
Geuder is very active in the community and her church, serving as an elder of First Presbyterian Church USA, Columbus, and on boards that have included Habitat for Humanity and the Starkville Convention and Visitors Council.
She earned her bachelor's degree in English from Millsaps College and master's degree in English from The University of Alabama.
