Smith

COLUMBUS, Miss. – “Desperation Road,” the latest novel from The W’s Michael Farris Smith, is continuing to earn critical acclaim.

The associate professor of English, whose earlier novel, Rivers, earned the 2014 Mississippi Author Award for Fiction from the Mississippi Library Association, is once again off and running with his latest work, published by Lee Boudreaux Books, an imprint of Little Brown.

Desperation Road, set in south Mississippi, was named among Southern Living’s Best Books of 2017, as well as being listed on Barnes and Noble’s List of “Discover New Writers.” It is also on the Indie Next List and among Amazon’s Best Books rankings.

The book also is on the Gold Dagger Award longlist, an award that recognizes the best crime fiction of the year.

Library Journal says, “Smith once again uses his native Mississippi as the perfect backdrop for this dark, satisfying novel of coincidence and revenge. Verdict: Smith’s second novel is every bit as good as his first, an excellent piece of Southern crime fiction.”

The author will be among those who present their work at the 2017 Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium Oct. 19-21 on The W campus. For more information, see http://www.muw.edu/welty .

Desperation Road is available at local bookstores or online at Amazon and other online booksellers.
