Columbus, Miss.--The W will participate in a campaign for the United Way Monday, Oct. 9- Oct. 27.

The “Live United” campaign will encourage students, faculty and staff to support the United Way and its 18 partnering agencies that impact the surrounding community. The goal of the campaign is to raise more than $6,400. The second goal of the campaign is to have as many students, faculty and staff as possible participate in the campaign by contributing or volunteering with the United Way.

“As a member of ‘The W Family,’ each person should participate in the United Way Campaign in order to provide a unified, positive response to prevailing community needs,” said Danny Avery, executive director for United Way of Lowndes County. “As each person does their part in responding positively in a way to meet these needs, the burden is equally shared and no one person is asked to do more than a fair share.”

According to Avery, many of the agencies supported by the United Way require base amounts to receive government grants. With support from the United Way, these agencies could receive as much as 10 times more in grant funding by reaching the required base amount.

Contributions to the “Live United” campaign can be made by filling out the pledge card that was delivered to each office Oct. 5. United Way gifts can be one time gifts or a reoccurring payroll deduction. The cards can be returned to campaign co-coordinators, Dr. Jenny Miles and Tyler Wheat. Out of each $1 donated, $.99 remains in the local community.

“Any and every amount makes a difference! That is the beauty of the United Way.  When we ‘Live United’ – the burden is shared,” added Avery.
