Crouse

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Lee Crouse, associate professor of theatre at Mississippi University for Women, was selected as the recipient of the university’s Humanities Faculty Member of the Year Award.

“It is always an honor to be recognized by one’s peers, and I am grateful my department chair, David Carter, submitted the nomination,” said Crouse.

Upon Crouse being selected to receive the award, he will deliver a presentation titled “Creating the World of Silent Sky” Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Cromwell 238 (Second Stage) at 6 p.m. A reception, which is free and open to the public, will follow.

In his presentation, Crouse will talk about how the play, “Silent Sky,” went from the page to the stage, from a directing standpoint.

Presented annually by the Mississippi Humanities Council, the awards to faculty members at Mississippi Colleges and universities recognize the contributions of humanities faculty in the state. Recipients will be honored at an awards dinner and ceremony Friday, Feb. 16 at the Old Capitol Museum in Jackson.

“I nominated Lee for this honor because while there have been exemplary recipients in the past few years, I felt that this year we needed a faculty member who is grounded in the performing arts to fully demonstrate the depth and breadth of our humanities program here at MUW,” said Carter.

Crouse has taught at The W for more than seven years. He teaches acting courses, theatre history, stage combat and other theatre classes that students request. His areas of specialization are acting, directing and stage combat. He earned his masters of arts from Louisiana Tech University and masters of fine arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. Crouse obtained his bachelor of arts from Ouachita Baptist University.
