Bogdan

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Dr. Valentin M. Bogdan, assistant professor of music at Mississippi University for Women, has released his solo piano album titled “Romanian Piano Music of the Past and Present.”

The album features compositions of prominent Romanian composers, some hidden gems discovered by Bogdan himself while doing research in his native Romania, and some of Bogdan’s own original compositions. The album was recorded in May 2017 and was released this past October at a recital Bogdan played in West Bloomfield, Mich., as part of the 2017 American Romanian Festival.

“I am very glad to be able to share with the general public these piano pieces” said Bogdan. “Currently, with the exception of a few famous works, Romanian piano music is not very well-known in the U.S., thus it is seldom heard in concert halls. It is my hope that this project will bring to the forefront these great piano pieces, and that it will also spark greater interest in the Romanian classical music as a whole.”

This is the second album released this year that features Bogdan as a pianist and composer. Earlier this spring, Bogdan was featured on “Abstractions,” a trumpet/piano album released by Louisiana Tech University music professor

Randall Sorensen. Bogdan played the piano part for British composer’s Cecilia McDowell “Framed,” and his own compositions “From the Artist’s Studio.” In the past, he has also had additional compositions released by Ablaze Records and Ravello Records.
