Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll 2018

COLUMBUS, Miss. — Mississippi University for Women was recently recognized as one of the top universities for the support of transfer students in the nation.

Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for associate degree-granting colleges, named The W to the 2018 Transfer Honor Roll.

To be considered, universities are evaluated in the areas of scholarship and financial aid, admissions outreach, student support services and student engagement opportunities. This year Phi Theta Kappa recognized 112 institutions with the Transfer Honor Roll.

MUW Admissions Director Shelley Moss said the recognition highlights the many ways The W works to serve the diverse body of students.

“The W prides itself on its strong connection to transfer students and appreciates how richly transfer students have enhanced our campus,” Moss said. “We are honored by this award and continue to look for ways to better serve transfer students now and in the future.”

Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said colleges and universities that provide high-quality programs and services to community college transfers benefit from the rich perspective and diversity these students bring to the student body, and ultimately to the nation’s workforce.

“Increasingly, students of all ages and achievement levels are choosing the community college, not only as their first step, but also their first choice in the pursuit of a quality, affordable bachelor’s degree,” Tincher-Ladner said. “These students are scholars, leaders and global citizens, and it has been shown over and over that they do as well as students beginning college at a four-year college or university.
