COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Eight members of the Gordy Honors College at Mississippi University for Women presented their research at the Mississippi Honors Conference at Jackson State University.
Students made the following presentations in the poster session Feb. 3:
• Nikita Aangdembe Subba, senior marketing major, “Comprehensiveness of Product Placement in Hollywood and Bollywood Movies”
• Chelsey Collins, senior history major, “Sexual Codes in Early Medieval Ireland”
• Shristi Dhakal, senior accounting major, “Reliability of Clustering in Forecasting Stock Prices of Companies Traded on the Stock Exchanges”
• Aastha Ghimire, senior math major, “Network Analysis Using Program Evaluation Review Technique/Critical Path Method (PERT/CPM) in a Student’s Plan of Study”
• Lisa Shrestha, senior biology major, “Quantitative Analysis of mRNA Expression in Endogenous and Exogenous CFTR Expressing Cell Lines”
Dhakal was awarded second place in the Humanities/Professional Studies category, while Aangdembe Subba was awarded third place.
In oral presentations, students made the following presentations:
• Ashmita Bhandari, senior accounting major, “Initial Donations and Social Norms: Restaurant Field Experiment in Charitable Giving.”
• Delaney Edmondson, junior English secondary education major, “In Our Mothers’ Quilts: Examining the Connections in the Quilts of Gee’s Bend and Alice Walker’s In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens and ‘Everyday Use’”
• Subrina Oswalt, senior political science major, “Polarization in American Presidential Politics: Looking for the Effects of Citizens United and Increased Campaign Spending”
Bhandari was awarded second place in the Humanities/Professional Studies category.
More than 70 students from six four-year institutions and five community colleges across the state participated in the conference, which also featured networking opportunities for students and a plenary session on the conference theme “Celebrating Diversity in Mississippi.”
