COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women nursing graduates had a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX exam, placing the program among top baccalaureate nursing programs in the state.
The Mississippi Board of Nursing recently reported that all 63 bachelor of science in nursing graduates from The W passed the NCLEX exam on the first attempt. The report accounted for all graduates who took the NCLEX exam during the months of January-December 2017.
“The high first-time pass rates are a wonderful testament to the dedication of the students, faculty and staff. Additionally, our clinical partners go the extra mile to have clinical experiences that enhance our students’ opportunities for success,” said Dr. Tammie McCoy, chair of the bachelor of science in nursing program.
The National Council Licensure Examination, known as the NCLEX, is a standardized test that covers the categories of clients’ needs such as health promotion, health maintenance and effective care environments. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing administers the exam.
“We want our students to be ready to practice as a nurse. The high pass rate means that the students are able to go to work immediately. Our W graduate nurses are ready to provide quality, safe patient care,” said McCoy.
For 2017, the national pass rate was 87 percent and the average was 86 percent for the state of Mississippi. This is the second time in the past three years The W has achieved a 100 percent pass rate. In 2016, The W had a 98 percent pass rate.
The W’s associate of nursing program graduates posted a 95 percent pass rate for 2017.
