COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Ceramic artist James Davis is currently showing recent work at the Mississippi University for Women Galleries until Friday, May 4. The exhibition, entitled “Apathetic Love Song,” features ceramic structures as well as drawings.

Davis’ open-weave, clay structures are combined with ceramic vessels adorned with private musings that are “fueled by sad songs, heartbreak, grifted visual cues, inside jokes and motion,” according to the artist. Some of the structures rise out of the vessels while others encase the vessel to simultaneously reveal and protect the statements written in minuscule script on the sides of the vessel.

Having earned his master of fine arts in ceramics from the University of Alabama in 2013, Davis is quickly establishing himself in numerous exhibitions throughout the Southeast. In addition to exhibiting his own work, he has curated art shows in Georgia and Alabama. Davis is currently working on an exhibition of contemporary work by women artists for the fall at the Mississippi University for Women Galleries.

The Mississippi University for Women Galleries, located in Summer Hall, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Galleries are free and open to the public.
