Wellness Institute

Educators from around the Golden Triangle are at Mississippi University for Women learning about the importance of incorporating nutrition and physical activity in their classrooms.

About 20 teachers are participating in the fifth Wellness Institute, a Passport to Wellness program funded through the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. The institute ends Thursday, July 12.

Each day begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. with a variety of activities and range of topics such as childhood obesity, brain-based learning techniques, a demonstration of yoga moves that can be done at the desk and more.

“The office of Outreach & Innovation is so excited to host the fifth Wellness Institute for Teachers through the Passport to Wellness program. The goal of this institute is to help make health a priority in our community by first educating teachers on how they can incorporate these lessons into their classroom subjects and hopefully that trickles down to the student’s family and home life,” said Janie Shields, coordinator of Outreach & Special Projects.

Teachers must attend all three days to receive credit for CEUs, stipend and resources for the classroom.
