COLUMBUS, Miss. – Dr. Marty Brock, chair of the Department of Business and professor of management information systems at Mississippi University for Women, has been named interim dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies, effective Aug. 1.
As interim dean, she will supervise three departments, including the Department of Business, the Culinary Arts Institute and Legal Studies.
She has served as chair of the business department since 2012 and as professor of management information systems since 2017. She was associate professor of MIS for three years and assistant professor for four years.
“Dr. Brock has been a catalyst in the student growth and curricular innovation that has occurred across The W's business programs. Working collaboratively with the faculty and staff, the College of Business and Professional Studies could not be in better hands, nor more ably led,” said Dr. Scott Tollison, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs.
A resident of Caledonia, she joined The W in 2006 as instructor and director of instructional technology and became instructor and coordinator for the Center for Teaching Excellence three years later.
Brock has served the campus in numerous capacities, most recently with the Planning Institution and Effectiveness Council, Graduate Council and Council of Chairs.
Dr. Brock has provided invited presentations on a range of topics, and has submitted a number of grant proposals related to enhancing student learning.
Her professional affiliations include the Mississippi Business Educators Association; Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education; and the Association for the Advancement of Computing Education.
Prior to joining The W, Brock was an extension instructor at the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
She earned a doctorate of philosophy in instructional systems and workforce development with a minor in agricultural information science from MSU. Brock earned both her masters of science in business administration in information systems with a minor in instructional technology and bachelor of arts in history from MSU.
Brock said, “I could not ask for a better group of faculty and staff to work with than those who serve in the Department of Legal Studies, the Culinary Arts Institute and the Department of Business. Under Dr. Tollison’s leadership, the College of Business and Professional Studies has grown and is in a wonderful place.”
“With recent curriculum redesign and innovative initiatives such as the 10K-MBA to be launched this fall, I believe we are poised for further growth. I am both honored and humbled to have been asked to serve during this time of transition,” she added.
