Program of the 34th Annual

Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium 

October 27th, 28th, and 29th, 2022

The theme for this year's symposium is "Telling Stories, Charting a Future: 'Coming to the end of the road… the jumping-off place'" It is inspired by Eudora Welty's story "No Place for You, My Love" from The Bride of Innisfallen and Other Stories.

All sessions will be held in Rent Auditorium of Whitfield Hall and live-streamed for those who can't attend in person.

author of The Tornado is the World

Catherine Pierce returns to the symposium with her third collection of poetry, The Tornado is the World, which The Rumpus describes as an "Ambitious Atlas of Fears." Winner of the 2017 and 2013 Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters awards for poetry, Pierce is co-director of creative writing at Mississippi State University and a frequent symposium participant. Her previous collections of poetry inclde Famous Last Words and The Girls of Peculiar.
