author of The Persimmon Trail and Other Stories

Juyanne James tells tales of her native South Louisiana in her debut collection, The Persimmon Trail and Other Stories, which The New Orleans Review has praised as “immersed in rich, lush Southern settings, rural and urban.” Srong African American women and  families inhabit this collection, each on their own journey, much like James, who grew up on a farm, joined the navy at 17, and eventually returned to New Orleans to teach English at Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
