COLUMBUS, Miss.—The Department of Theatre at Mississippi University for Women will host auditions for the upcoming play “I Hate Shakespeare” by Steph Deferie Monday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cromwell Blackbox Theatre.
“Anyone from The W or Columbus community is welcome to audition. They don’t need to prepare anything, but a general knowledge of the play is useful. The play is a fast-paced comedy that puts a modern spin on many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays,” said Libby Hawkins, director and assistant professor of theatre at The W.
The production will be all outdoors April 7- 8. Rehearsals start Monday, Feb 21.
Playscript, Inc. said, “We hate Shakespeare! At least that's what the audience thinks until they get a rip-roaring rundown of Shakespeare's classics. With zombies, talking cows and an appearance by Jerry Springer, “I Hate Shakespeare!” is a hilarious and fast-paced introduction to Shakespeare -- with a modern twist. Plus, someone gets a pie in the face.”
Actors are asked to bring a headshot and resume to the audition. Participants are asked to wear a mask and be prepared to perform readings from the script. All roles are available.
