Department of Business
Dr. Dee A. Larson, Chair
It is my pleasure to welcome you to MUW’s Department of Business. I am glad you are visiting our website as it gives me the opportunity to tell you a little about the Department of Business and its people. Whether you are just starting in your career or working to advance in your current profession, MUW is the right choice.
An Exciting Curriculum
With the skills you gain from our wide variety of program options, you will soon be on the fast track to success. We offer opportunities in General Business, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Accounting. We also offer a Bachelor of Technology degree in Professional Studies with several business concentrations for graduates of community college career and technical programs who wish to further their education. Finally, our online Master of Science in Global Commerce degree is for professionals who wish to live and work in the US, but need to function in the international business environment.
A Flexible Curriculum
We understand that succeeding in today’s economy can be a challenge, which is why we offer flexible learning options to suit the needs of every student. Whether you prefer to immerse yourself in the face to face classroom or need the flexibility of learning online, MUW’s Department of Business has options available to you.
Rich Learning Environment
Unlike many larger universities, the students who attend The W receive individual attention from faculty members who are accessible and committed to teaching and advising. A complete business education must go beyond book knowledge, offering you the environment in which to develop a game plan for life. Students at The W benefit from small classes, close interaction with engaged faculty, personalized advising, and interactions with high achieving peers. Our professors believe in the inclusion of real world experience in the classroom. Students have opportunities to work on consulting projects with local businesses, business simulation games and case study. Our professors also welcome local business leaders into their classroom to share their experience with our students.
Active Student Body
For students who wish to engage in a rich learning experience outside of the classroom, we offer several active student organizations for Business students. The TVA Investment Club is a student organization which manages a real stock portfolio and competes with other regional universities. Our TVA chapter has won several first place prizes in the competition and has constantly managed a portfolio with double digit returns. We also have a student honor society, Delta Mu Delta and our other business organization, Phi Beta Lambda participates in regional competitions. During the 2013 state competition, MUW students placed in seven events with four of those placements being first place achievements. The faculty and staff of MUW’s Department of Business are proud that we have been chosen as the host site for the state Phi Beta Lambda competition in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
On behalf of the faculty and staff here in the Department of Business at MUW, we look forward to meeting and working with you to build your academic and professional future. Whether you want the classic experience of the face to face classroom or the flexibility of online instruction MUW’s Department of Business is for you. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you further about our department and hope that you will join me in the Long Blue Line.
