Culinary Arts Scholarships

The Culinary Arts Institute offers scholarship opportunities to incoming culinary art majors. Departmental scholarships are offered in addition to university scholarships a student may receive for academic merit.

Students must be admitted to The W in order to complete the scholarship application. To apply, follow the instructions listed below.

Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship

The Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship is awarded to a Culinary Arts major enrolled full time as a freshman or sophomore GPA of 2.5 or above based on high school, transfer, or MUW grades (if applicable) wtih an ACT composite score of 21 or above.

For consideration, applicants should submit the following. The priority deadline is April 1 of each year.

  • MUWAA Scholarship Application
  • Student issued transcript and documentation of ACT score;
  • Student’s complete résumé, including academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and work and volunteer activities;
  • A 250 word essay addressing “why you deserve the scholarship and overall career goals;
  • Two faculty letters of recommendation, addressing the student’s leadership and volunteerism

ProStart Scholarship

The ProStart Scholarship is a $ 3,000 per year ($1,500 per semester) scholarship that is a four-year (eight semesters for freshmen) award or until graduation whichever occurs first, total of $12,000. Summer semesters are not included. The award and renewal of the scholarship are contingent upon the following criteria:

  • Complete the ProStart Scholarship;
  • 500-word essay explaining your future plans within the culinary or hospitality industry and why attending the Culinary Arts Institute at MUW will help you reach that goal;
  • Include a copy of your certificate of completion – Depending on your individual State requirement for completion, this could be a NRAEF ProStartNational Certificate of Achievement or ServSafe Certification.
  • You must maintain continuous enrollment at MUW majoring in Culinary Arts and maintain a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year;
  • You must earn and maintain a MUW cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or higher each semester.

Southern Grace Scholarship

The Southern Grace Scholarship is awarded to a Culinary Arts major enrolled full time with junior or senior standing, with an Overall 2.75 GPA and a Culinary Arts course GPA of 3.0 or above.

For consideration, applicants should submit the following. The priority deadline is April 1 of each year.

  • MUWAA Scholarship Application
  • Student issued transcript;
  • Student’s complete résumé, including academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and work and volunteer activities;
  • A 250 word essay addressing “why you deserve the scholarship and overall career goals;”
  • Two faculty letters of recommendation (address leadership and volunteerism)

University-Level Scholarships

The W offers a variety of scholarships for all sorts of scholars. There are awards for academic performance, academic interest, W legacy, financial need, and others. And we make it easy for you to apply. Our online application includes applications for all our scholarships. Simply apply to The W, submit high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores, and we'll take care of the rest.

EMCC Tuition Guarantee

Residents of Lowndes County, Mississippi, who have graduated from East Mississippi Community College are eligible to attend The W tuition-free.

 

 

 

Mississippi Financial Aid

The state of Mississippi provides about $40 million each year to help students go to college. The state offers three undergraduate grant programs: HELP, which awards full tuition for students with financial need; MTAG, which awards $500 per year to freshmen and sophomores and $1,000 per year to juniors and seniors; and MESG, which awards $2,500 per year to high-achieving students with a 29 or higher ACT and 3.5 or higher GPA. All three grant programs require students to enroll full-time each term.
