Melinda Lowe is the Director of Outreach & Innovation and Program Coordinator of Education at Mississippi University for Women where she manages multiple university programs and grant-funded projects within the School of Education. Before joining MUW 10 years ago, Melinda worked for the Desoto County Schools as a 2nd grade teacher and then at the Columbus Municipal School District for 16 years as a 4th grade teacher, curriculum coordinator, professional development coordinator, and she developed the STAR New Teacher Induction program. Melinda received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University and her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Mississippi University for Women. She is a National Board-Certified Teacher and has conducted numerous trainings for educators, parents and various non-profit organizations. Her service to the community includes serving on multiple PK-16 education committees, the United Way of Lowndes and Noxubee Board of Directors, the Lowndes Young Leaders advisory board, the Columbus Lowndes Excel by 5 coalition, the MUW Lowndes County Alumni Association, P.E.O. Chapter AB, as well as having served as the chair of the Board of Directors for the Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce. Melinda is passionate about preparing and supporting teachers, especially first-year teachers. She believes that excellence in teaching is a journey, not a destination and therefore is continually seeking opportunities to provide teachers with high-quality professional development.
