The forum focuses on current issues and strategies related to the field of gifted studies.  Centered on the theme, “Getting to the Core of InteGREATion,” this year’s program will feature sessions about connecting Common Core standards, gifted education standards and 21st century skills. 

“With a better understanding of advanced learners and knowledge of strategies that support their learning, teachers in regular and gifted classrooms are able to design an improved collaborative approach to meet the needs of all learners,” said Dr. April Coleman, assistant professor of gifted studies.

The guest presenter for the forum, Dr. Jane Newman from University of Alabama, will present a hands-on workshop on Talents Unlimited, a practical model with an extensive research base for developing students’ creative and critical thinking skills. In addition, gifted teachers and MUW education faculty will present workshops on topics related to curriculum development, technology integration and current issues and trends in gifted education.

“Professional development opportunities often lack relevance for gifted educators, so field specific events such as T.G.I.F. are of utmost importance to facilitate growth in teachers’ knowledge and skills to be effective 21st century educators, as well as provide them with opportunities to network with other professionals,” said Coleman.

The will offer 0.7 CEU credits for an additional $20. The forum is open to anyone, but registration is required. The pre-registration fee of $40 includes breakfast and lunch.
