Presidential, Centennial, & Honors Awards

Any incoming freshman who receives the Presidential Award is automatically qualified to enroll in the Honors College and only need to informs the College of their acceptance by emailing honors@muw.edu. Presidential honors students complete the Four-Year Honors Curriculum.

Students receiving the Presidential Award are also eligible to interview for The W's two highest levels of scholarship, the Centennial and the Honors Awards, both of which include participation in the Gordy Honors Residential Program. Students are notified if they qualify for these competitive scholarships and are invited to interview.

The Honors Residential Program includes living in Grossnickle Hall and completing the Four-Year Honors Curriculum, which includes going on Study Abroad in the summer after the sophomore year and culminates in an original research project in the senior year.

Other Freshmen

Other entering freshmen may apply for admission with a minimum ACT score of 24 or SAT score of 1090.

After completing at least one semester at MUW, students may apply to enter the Honors College on the basis of a GPA of 3.4 or above. No student will be admitted after the sophomore year.

Accepted students complete the Four-Year Honors Curriculum.

• honors application
• at least one letter of recommendation from an individual who can speak to your academic record and ability to complete an honors curriculum

Transfer Students

Only transfer students may enter the Honors College after the sophomore year. No student may enter in the senior year. 

Any transfer student who receives the Presidential Award upon acceptance to The W is automatically qualified to enroll in the Honors College and only needs to inform the College of their acceptance by emailing honors@muw.edu.

Other transfer students may apply to enter the Honors College on the basis of a GPA of 3.4 or above.

Honors College Applications

The Gordy Honors College has affiliation agreements with some Mississippi community colleges. If you participated in the honors program at your community college, please contact contact Honors College Director Kim Whitehead at kmwhitehead@muw.edu to inquire about how to apply.

All accepted transfer students complete the Transfer Honors Curriculum.
