COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Dr. Christopher Thompson, classical violinist, and Laura Thompson, pianist, will present a recital Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 in Poindexter Hall.

The program will feature masterworks from the standard violin repertoire written by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Eugene Ysaÿe and Jenõ Hubay, as well as compositions by Mississippi University for Women composers Dr. Joe L. Alexander and Dr. Valentin M. Bogdan. 

Christopher Thompson is an award-winning violinist who has performed in the United States, Europe and the Far East. He served as music professor at Murray State University and University of Louisiana-Monroe, from where he retired in 2010. In 1983, Thompson was a winner in the NFMC Young Artist Auditions. In 1992, he was invited to join the artist-faculty at Sessione Senese, a summer music institute at the University of Siena in Italy. There, he presented violin master classes and performed in venues in Tuscany and in Switzerland. In 1994, Thompson was one of 11 music professors in the United States to be awarded a Senior Fulbright Lectureship.

Laura Mobley Thompson most recently served as associate professor of voice and vocal music education at Louisiana Tech University. Dr. Thompson has held previous appointments at the University of Louisiana of Monroe and at Murray State University. She holds degrees from Mississippi State University, LSU and the doctor of arts degree in vocal pedagogy from the University of Mississippi. As a mezzo soprano, she has performed as a soloist with the Memphis Oratorio Society, the Alabama Festival Orchestra and the Paducah Symphony.
