Meltzer

COLUMBUS, Miss. -- Thrillers, children’s books and comics—writer Brad Meltzer has something for every reader. On Friday, Oct. 19, guests will have an opportunity to meet the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author in person at the 2018 Welty Gala.

“The Escape Artist,” Meltzer’s newest book, recently debuted at No. 1. Reviews describe the book as a cutting-edge thriller with a memorable main character readers won’t be able to forget.

Meltzer also is No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of “The Inner Circle,” “The Book of Fate” and nine other bestselling thrillers including “The Tenth Justice,” “The First Counsel,” “The Millionaires” and “The President’s Shadow.”

In addition to his fiction, Meltzer is one of the only authors to ever have books on the bestseller list for non-fiction, children’s books and comic books.

He is the host of “Brad Meltzer’s Lost History” on H2 and “Brad Meltzer’s Decoded” on the History Channel. “The Hollywood Reporter” recently put him on their list of Hollywood’s 25 Most Powerful Authors.

Meltzer is also responsible for helping find the missing 9/11 flag that the firefighters raised at Ground Zero, making national news on the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

W President Nora Miller said, “We look forward to hosting Brad Meltzer and hearing about his best-selling work. We also look forward to raising scholarships for so many deserving students as part of this event.”

The Welty Gala, sponsored by the MUW Foundation, is a part of the signature Welty Series held annually in October to honor the university’s world-renowned alumna Eudora Welty. As a part of the Welty Series, The W also hosts the Eudora Welty Writers’ Symposium scheduled Oct. 18-20. The Welty Gala will be held at 7 p.m. in the Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus.

“We’re expecting an outstanding evening for this year’s Gala with best-selling author Brad Meltzer, a widely sought-after speaker,” said Andrea Stevens, executive director of development and alumni. “This is definitely an event to look forward to, and it offers a wonderful way to support scholarships for our students.”

Benefactor and Patron Gala tickets include a private reception catered by The W’s Culinary Arts Institute students with the guest speaker along with premium seating during a three-course meal. Guests with Friend tickets will enjoy a reception in the main lobby of the Trotter Convention Center with several of the authors who are participating in the Welty Symposium. A book signing and question and answer session will follow Meltzer’s presentation.
