Important Advising Notes

  • It is important that students complete BSB 141 & 142 (Human A&P I & II) by the end of the sophomore year.  These are prerequisite courses for KIN 361 Physiology of Exercise w/lab and KIN 390 Anatomical Kinesiology which are  typically offered in the fall semester only.
  • KIN 361 Physiology of Exercise w/lab and KIN 390 Anatomical Kinesiology need to be taken in the first semester of the junior year if possible.  These are prerequisite courses for KIN 408 Biomechanics and KN 460 Exercise Programming for Special populations which are typically offered in the spring semester only.
  • KIN 361 Physiology of Exercise w/lab is a prerequisite course for HK 316 Practicum in Health and Kinesiology.  KIN 316 is typically taught every term (fall, spring, summer).
  • HK Electives must be 3 credit-hour courses with an KIN or HED prefix (i.e., 1 credit-hour activity courses will not meet this requirement). Other health-related courses may serve as HK electives.
  • The “Humanities & Fine Arts” is a 12-hour (4 courses) General Education requirement that includes at least 3 hours (1 course) from each of the following areas: History Survey; Literature Survey; Fine Arts/Appreciation.  The student must choose an additional course from one of the three areas to complete the 12-hour requirement.  See the General Education requirement for specific courses.
  • The “Social Sciences” requirement includes courses from Business, Geography. Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Religion or Women’s Studies.  See the General Education requirements for specific courses.
  • The “Critical Thinking” requirement can be completed by any Philosophy (non-religion) course.  See the General education requirements for specific courses.
  • The “Health-Related” requirement is fulfilled with KIN 147 Weight Training or the KIN activity requirement.
  • The “Advanced Science” must be a 300 level course in the Biological (BSB or BSM prefix) or Physical (PSC or PSP prefix) sciences.
  • Required PT observation hours can be accrued during the internship.
