COLUMBUS, Miss.-- Mississippi University for Women’s online public health degree was recently announced as No. 2 nationally in an online ranking.

In the 15 Best Online Bachelor’s in Public Health for 2021, besthealthdegrees.com highlighted The W’s online public health degree, affordability and course offerings.

“This recognition that The W offers opportunities for students to enter an interesting and important field and allows them to prepare for this career online is important. Recent events like the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have shined a spotlight on public health and our students will be prepared to serve as public health professionals,” said Irene Pintado, professor of health education at The W.

The site also noted that the university has been ranked U.S. News and World Report ranks The W #18 in Best Value Schools and #21 in Top Public Schools.

The W offers a bachelor of science in public health education and bachelor of applied science in public health education. Both degrees are available fully online and designed to develop professionals who work to promote, maintain and improve individual and community health in the public and private sectors and at the local, state, and federal levels.

Pintado said, “The program is online, but this is not an impersonal experience. Students get to know their faculty and the faculty get to know their students. Having the problem fully online, gives students the flexibility to balance work and family obligations while completing their degree.”

Additionally, the university offers a fully online Masters of Public Health program that is designed to prepare students to address the broad mission of public health utilizing education, research and community service.
