Scholarship fund established for inspiring, courageous alumna

Jane Keating Rodriguez

Dedicated mentor, faithful friend, loving wife, daughter, godmother, loyal Mississippi University for Women alumna – these are just some of the attributes that characterized Jane Keating Rodriguez (MUW: 1981-1984), a remarkable woman who faced a 10-year battle with metastatic breast cancer with courage, poise, Southern charm and humor. With seed funds left to The W by her estate, Jane’s family and friends have increased that sum fourfold to launch the Jane Keating Rodriguez Scholarship in her honor and, as noted below, hope to raise more!

MUWAA announces new board and president-elect

The MUWAA Board of Directors is comprised of 15 total members — five members in three “classes,” each of whom serve three-year terms. The newest class of board members, who will serve from 2017-2020, are Symone Bounds ’12 of Jackson; Amy Harris ’98 of Nashville, Tenn.; Sarah Morgan Howell ’74 of Amory; Audra Odom ’92 of Pontotoc; and Clemmie Phillips ’11 of Columbus. President-elect Katy Canion Pacelli of Brandon will serve for the 2017-2018 term. This is a two-year term, serving alongside current president, Courtney Ballard Murtaugh, this year, and serving as president the next.

Pohl Gym Upgrades

Owls Court

Pohl Gymnasium is currently in the process of receiving upgrades to prepare for the return of athletics. New 10’x6’ Nevco scoreboards were installed May 18-19 complete with LED lights and shot clocks.

Preserving the Experience

My mother, Cheralyn Hendrix Powers ’71, worked in Fant Memorial Library as a student assistant when it was in the building now known as Welty Hall. I have always loved hearing her tell the story of her imagination getting swept away by the books she was shelving in the basement. Growing up, every time we visited a library I felt like I was embarking on an adventure.
