I am honored to serve as the new president of the MUW Alumni Association, representing over 25,000 alumni worldwide. As my term begins, I reflect on all the amazing things that have occurred in the years since I graduated from our great institution: record enrollments, record graduation rates, the return of the W athletics program, and most recently the induction of a fellow alumna and our 15th University President, Nora Miller.

There are so many bright spots to be proud of at our alma mater. As alumni, the excitement around the future of our institution should also serve as a great reminder of what a fantastic university we have to call our own! So many of our personal and professional achievements can be traced back to the experience we gained while a student at The W. From lasting friendships to the experiences and challenges we embraced in and outside of the classroom, The W set the stage for our lives that followed. Our W education prepared us well, and can continue to provide the same quality educational experience that will shape the lives of others.

Over the past few years our alumni board has worked diligently alongside university administration to foster the enthusiasm this institution deserves—growing its active membership to record numbers, establishing a strategic plan that coincides with the vision of the university, fully funding the MUWAA Legacy Scholarship, connecting with current students through the MUWAA BLUE Event, growing our chapters and constituency groups, beginning to endow our three faculty awards and working to shine our light to future prospective students.

Even with all the great work we have done, there is still much needed to ensure the sustainability of our institution. Over the next year our alumni association will continue to focus efforts in the following areas:

1. Membership: This year we will work to grow our active membership. With over 55 alumni chapter gatherings this year, there will be many opportunities for alumni to gather, connect and support our alma mater. We will work to grow our constituency groups, connecting our alumni back to our university and building a sense of pride and distinction of the great achievements of our university and its alumni. I am asking that we do our part to make sure tomorrow’s students have experiences whose power and value rival our own.
2. Connect with Current Students: Additionally, our association will continue to connect with current students and focus our efforts to create a sense of value and belonging to our association.
3. Supporting our Faculty: Over the past several years, The MUWAA has used funds from the MUWAA Long Blue Line Auction to not only fully endow The MUWAA Legacy Scholarship, but we have also begun work on funding multiple faculty awards that will support the work of our faculty in the classroom. This year as we continue to work to support the funding of these awards, we ask for your continued help in supporting these efforts by donating items, financially contributing or bidding on items at The Long Blue Line Auction. In closing, I want to thank each of you for the light you shine on our alma mater, and remind you that our Alumni Association is only as strong as the sum of its parts. We are ALL part of the legacy of the Long Blue Line and we stand over 25,000 strong. That’s an impressive number when we work together. Together we can grow our membership. Together we can continue to be a beacon of light for our alma mater. Together we can ensure its future remains bright and its lines long and blue.
