Accounting Honorary

Accounting Honorary is a locally sponsored organization to recognize scholarship in Accounting. The objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic excellence in the study of Accounting.

Membership Criteria
- 3.0 overall Mississippi University for Women G.P.A.
- 3.0 overall Accounting G.P.A.

 

Delta Mu Delta

Delta Mu Delta (site) is the National Honor Society in Business Administration for business programs accredited by the ACBSP at the baccalaureate/graduate level. The national chapter was founded in 1913. In 1963 the Society was admitted to membership in the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS). MUW's Kappa Lambda chapter was installed in May 2005 for our undergraduate business majors who meet the high academic standards of Delta Mu Delta membership.

Membership Criteria
- Be registered in business administration programs at a school with a Delta Mu Delta chapter and be candidates for the baccalaureate degree
- Have completed at least half the work required for the degree
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 above a "B" or better
- Be in the top 20 percent of their class and be in good standing.

Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

The purpose of the MUW chapter of IMA (site) is to provide students with information about career opportunities in accounting, financial management, and information management, and to network with other students and professionals in the community.

Membership Criteria
- Accounting major or those considering accounting as their major
- $35 national dues membership (apply online)
- $5 student chapter dues

Phi Beta Lambda
Phi Beta Lambda is a student-run organization that has been active on MUW’s campus as far back as the 1950s. Our mission is to bring businesses and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. In the past year, the club earned seven first-place finishes and nineteen place-ments at the 2017 Mississippi Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference hosted on the MUW campus.  MUW has hosted the state conference for five consecutive years.

 

TVA Investment Club

The TVA Investment Club (site) was organized in 2001 and at one time managed a portfolio of stocks with a market value of over $700,000. Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) provided the initial funding for the stock acquisitions within the portfolio. The objective of the TVA Investment Club is to educate its members about investing in the financial markets. Members in the club research and evaluate stocks and determine whether to buy, sell, or hold those stocks in a portfolio. The club competes with some twenty-five other colleges and universities located within the TVA service area for the highest level of return. In 2001 the club won $15,000 for having the highest returning portfolio, in 2002 the club won $10,000 for a third place finish, and in 2005 the club won $20,000. MUW's TVA Investment Club has consistently outperformed the overall stock market as measured by the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index.
