Anika Mitchell Perkins
Executive Director of University Relations
Anika Mitchell Perkins is executive director of university relations at The W. She has served the university in public affairs for more than 20 years.
On campus, she co-chairs the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council. Perkins also is on-campus adviser for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She is a past recipient of the Golden Triangle Public Relations Association of Mississippi’s Practitioner of the Year honor, as well as awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM).
Her professional involvement includes CPRAM, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, Southern Public Relations Federation and the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning University Communicators Committee.
Perkins earned her master of arts in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in public relations from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, December 2017 and earned her bachelor of arts degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from The W in 1993.
In the community, she presently serves as a board member for Main Street Columbus and has served on boards for the Boys & Girls Club of the Golden Triangle, Columbus Arts Council, Columbus Soccer Organization, Habitat for Humanity and Town & Tower Club.
Prior to joining The W, Perkins worked at The Commercial Dispatch, first as a reporter and then news editor.
