Tyler Wheat

Communications Director

Tyler joined University Relations in 2014 as the communications specialist. On a daily basis, he writes both press releases and feature stories. In addition, he manages multiple social media accounts, updates The W’s website with the latest news and events and manages media relations.

Prior to joining University Relations, Tyler worked as an admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions since 2012. During that time he recruited the largest geographical area working with traditional freshmen and transfer students. He also managed the admission’s social media accounts, planned student recruitment events and regularly toured students and guests around The W’s campus.

Tyler has served as the president of W Staff Council and served as chair for the Mississippi Association of Staff Council Organizations. He is board member of College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM). 

Tyler is a native of Columbus. He is a 2009 graduate of The University of Alabama with a bachelor of arts degree in communication information science.
